Description
Beautifully made 1920’s mesh purse measures 12 inches end to end. The wristlet slides working as they should. Blue cabochon stone in clasp. All hinges working as they should. Clicks shut with a nice sounding click. Engraved with scrollwork and flowers. All gold wash – still pretty strong in color. Bottom is 4 1/2 inches wide. the little mirrored compact is an inch in diameter by 1/4 inch deep and hinge is working well. To open you pull on the little tassle and it opens but seems a bit sluggish to me – probably needs some lubrication. Hallmarked WB along with a patent number 52092 and 1918. also says “soldered mesh”.
Condition – the wristlet is a bit twisted from use but intact. The mesh is not perfect as is typical with these – the right side by the hinge is missing some mesh – pretty significant but probably can be repaired with patience. The left side by the hinge is also detached and missing its mesh but not as significant as the other side. All other areas are attached but there is a lot of stretched wires – so it does need attention. The very bottom of the mesh looks great – as you get closer to the top there are a few small areas with missing wires.
