This is a rare set of 8 books  All are 19 x 13 and the front covers of each are silk along with a different color silk ribbon.   Pagination is continuous to 384.  Parts are divided into two books, parts 1-4 being book 1, 5-8 being book 2. Part 1, with first 12 artists, has a full title page, tables of the artists with named illustrations and a preface. Part 5, for the last 12 artists, same format but no preface. Parts 2-4 & 6-8 all have half titles only.  Interior is  of Imperial Japan paper. All gravures with tissue guards. Each part covers three artists, 24 in total. Artists are Louis Leloir, Detaille, Dore, Duez, Francais, Maurice Leloir, Le Blant, Worms, Lambert, Harpignes, de Beaumont, Rothschild, Heilbuth, Vibert, Lemaire, de Neuville, Lami, Jourdain, Baron, Isabey, Jacquet, Jacquemart, Delort and Tissot. 16 pages for each artist. Text pages with in text illustrations.  Limited to 250 copies.

I am not an expert so here’s what I see – the 8 volumes were carefully wrapped in outer paper – I note almost all have the silk ribbons shadows meaning these volumes were probably in storage with something heavy on top as the front silk cover of each has the faint outline of the silk ties.  Some of the corners seem a bit worn.  I didn’t open them all because all the leaves are loose not bound in side and it’s a bit daunting.  I’m not sure if everything is included or what is supposed to be included.  From the books I looked at there was minimal foxing or any interior issues. Some overall even yellowing.  I note some ‘dents’ on a few of the covers.

I will assume the person buying these will be a  connoisseur of fine antique books so please know that we stand behind what we sell so if you purchase them and I have missed something just let me know and we will work it out.  Just figure its best to not be flipping through these.  They came from an estate where the person sent his book collection to sotheby’s and these were left behind.   All together quite heavy and know I refund any excess postage paid – don’t know the exact figure until they are actually packed!
