Description
Pre-Columbian 17 inch tall Male Colima Terracotta blowing horn shell – NOT experts so feel free to send your opinions…we have had this in our shop for 40 years it came out of a NYC estate where most of the items went to auction – the heirs kept some of the smaller items and we bought the whole lot back in 1985. He is 17 inches tall by 10 inches wide – numerous chips as the photos show.  One leg at the knee was put back together. Weighs almost 7 pounds. What is interesting about this piece too is it has a very smooth finish and when you tap it feels like it could be metal but from the broken piece on its head you can see it’s ceramic. Some kind of glazing. Multi colors too – reds and grays and blacks.
The lot included some Civil War militia items, a rare Cartier clock and a Warner Brothers pewter prop. The militia and Cartier items all sold in the past and were proven to be authentic. Through the years we have had so called ‘experts’ look at this figure and opinions ranged from it’s nothing to it’s valuable – we know a lot about a lot of things but this historical era is not in our realm. Just being honest. So we are selling this AS IS! Could be a genuine artifact from this time period or perhaps it is not.
