Description

Rolex Datejust 16233 Diamond Tropical Dial circa 1990 and Serviced – Serial number is E2833xx and it is from 1990 – we have had the watch serviced by our retired Rolex technicians in NYC and they have replaced the Mainspring and performed a full cleaning/lubrication and calibration of the movement.  We also had them clean and polish the casing and bracelet.  The dial is a diamond dial with gold and tritium hands, a 36mm Oyster case with 100 meters of water resistance, and  the classic 18KT and stainless Jubilee bracelet.  Every Datejust watch is powered by self-winding technology and also features an automatically changing date display. No box or papers.

Condition – serviced and running well. Jubilee bracelet has 19 links and the 2 end pieces – it should have a total of 22 so it was shortened at some point.  It will fit a standard man’s 8 inch wrist.  If you need it longer links are available from Rolex. The bracelet is also stretched (with space in between the links). The dial originally was a black dial.  A Rolex tropical dial is a dial that has discolored due to sustained exposure to the sun. Rolex used a special paint finish  around the mid-20th Century that was meant to make the surface UV-resistant.  However as it turns out it didn’t quite work and actually had the opposite effect. Once Rolex realized the specifications were not working they switched to a different coating.  This circa 1990 model’s black dial now has a golden sunburst chocolate brown hue – truly one of a kind and rare!   Collectors deem them ‘tropical dial’ due to the  plenty of sunshine and high humidity that can cause this fading process.
